Jan. 14

St. Stephen’s High School beat Hope Christian High School 63-47, Xavier School downed Grace Christian College 89-27, and Chiang Kai Shek College whipped St. Jude Catholic School 101-41.


Jan. 15

St. Jude Catholic School defeated St. Stephen’s High School 71-66, Chiang Kai Shek College whitewashed Grace Christian College 121-41, and Xavier School routed Hope Christian High School 111-31.


Team Standings: Xavier School (2-0), Chiang Kai Shek College (2-0), St. Jude Catholic School (1-1), St. Stephen’s High School (1-1), Hope Christian High (0-2) and Grace Christian College (0-2). Note: Uno High School has no Aspirants team.

XAVIER SCHOOL 71- CHIANG KAI SHEK 66

Notes: Jeron Teng scored the game’s first five points, including a three to start the 2012 Tiong Lian season … CKSC came back to tie the count four times (8-8, 13-13, 15-15 and 18-18) before Kyles Lao went 1-for-2 from the line to give XS a 19-18 lead after the first quarter … Teng was called for his second charging foul and third overall with 5:36 left in the second quarter and sat out the remaining first half … Much-improved John Baytan scored CKSC’s final eight points in the second quarter to hand the Blue Dragons a 33-28 halftime lead … Down 32-36 on CKSC’s Carlo Young’s three, Xavier engineered a 9-0 run to move ahead, 41-36 … The Golden Stallions had their biggest lead in the game at 45-38 on a Teng’s inside stab off a Lao assists … A Baytan three sent the game into a 47-47 deadlock with 1:31 left in the third quarter … CKSC regained the edge, 51-48, on two free throws by Young but Lao beat the third-period buzzer with a long three-point bank shot for a 51-all count … Early in the fourth quarter, Baytan went down with a foot injury … CKSC was ahead by four points, 57-53, on a Kimlee Bayquin basket with seven minutes remaining … Xavier then scored 10 straight points, including a three-point play by Lao off a steal and a layup that drew a foul, at the 4:30 mark … CKSC came roaring back with an 8-2 run of its own to regain the advantage, 66-65, on John Nieles’ pair of free throws, time down to 2:31 … Teng then missed a pair of free throws at the 1:48 mark as Baytan returned to action … A hard drive by Teng gave the lead back to Xavier, 67-66, time down to 1:12 … Another hard drive by Teng with 30 ticks left increased XS’s lead to 69-66 … With time running down, Bayquin airballed a three-pointer and CKSC was called for a 24-second short clock violation with six seconds left … Jarrell Lim went 2-for-2 from the foul line to seal the deal for XS, time down to 4.8 ticks … Teng topscored for Xavier with 24 points along with seven rebounds but the 6-1 guard had to bleed for his points as he shot only 9-for-28 from the field (including 8-for-24 from the two-point area) and 5-for-9 from the charity stripes … Lao wound up with 18 points, Lim had eight (including two threes), Paolo Cabero, seven, and Donald Felbaum with six points and a team-high eight rebounds … Nieles topped the CKSC scoring charts with 20 points and two other Blue Dragons were in double digits – Baytan 17 (and eight boards) and Young 14 (and eight rebounds) and Jibo Larin had a game-high nine rebounds to go with three points on a lone trifecta … CKSC shot 21-for-60 (.350) from the field and XS was 26-for-80 (.325) … XS won the battle of the boards, 52-49.


UNO 49 – GRACE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 47

Notes: Grace Christian had control in the first half, enjoying a 28-23 edge at halftime … Three consecutive baskets by Kevin Kok to start the second half gave Uno the lead, 29-28 … Grace Christian self-destructed in the endgame, going 0-for-6 from the foul line in the last 1.5 minutes and committing two unforced errors in the final 13.3 seconds left while trailing by just two, 49-47 … Ryan Lim collected 13 points and 18 rebounds for Uno, while Philipp Licaros added 11 and Kok contributed 10 … No Grace Christian player scored in double digits, with Jared Sy, Rodney Gonzales and Alfred Co each knocking in eight points apiece. Gonzales had 20 boards, 10 of them on the offensive end. Kevin Lao had 13 boards and six points for Grace Christian … Grace Christian outrebounded Uno, 72-48, but was only 6-for-25 (.240) from the free-throw line to Uno’s 17-for-42 (.405) clip.


HOPE CHRISTIAN 71 – ST. STEPHEN’S HS 39

Notes: Hope Christian scored the game’s first 14 points and was ahead by at least 10 thereafter in cruising to a 71-39 decision over St. Stephen’s HS … Mark Nuñez, who scored 60 points in an Aspirants game last season, scored a team-high 11 points in 18 minutes in Juniors debut with Hope … Leo Guion was the only other Hope player in double figures with 10 in nine minutes as Coach Stevenson Tiu kept his regulars on the bench most of the second half …Backup Edralin Villanueva had eight points in eight minutes as no Hope player played more than the 19 minutes of Errol Villar, who contributed seven points and seven boards. Big man Clint Doliquez had a game-high 11 rebounds with four markers … Evan Ong topscored for SSHS with 12 points. Pierre Chan totaled nine points and had eight boards (the same output of Adrian Te) while pint-sized guard Kevin Ng had eight points.
